Single parent needs advice.
current mood: drained
So I've been trying to get Cassie more interested in spending time on the computer. With the exception of writing papers, she won't touch them. She says that only geeks "play on the computer" then gives me that look that says, 'Mom, you're a geek.' I know she's more interested in clothes and boys and the newest movies than computers, but we all know that computers are our future. Sure, she knows how to google something for a research paper for English, but does she know how to make a basic webpage? No, no she doesn't. Will that skill be necessary for life? I dunno, possibly, but probably not. Though I will say that a basic knowledge of HTML has saved my life a couple of times. Posting on forums can be tricky when they change up the coding.
Anyway, I'm not trying to make her an avid WoW or GW fan. I'm not trying to make her a master of C++. I'm not trying to suck the life out of any free time she might have for a social life. I just want her to get more familiar with the operating system so that she doesn't have to ask me how to open Microsoft Word if it isn't on the start menu. I just want her to be an average computer user, not a programmer. I don't want her to get left behind in technology and have to struggle to play catch-up later... in college. Does anyone have any ideas how to get her using the computer on a semi-regular basis, and yet allow her to keep the bustling social life she thinks she has to have?
